From New York Times bestselling author Sheila Connolly!

Ever since her first ghostly sighting, Abby Kimball has been trying to unravel the mystery of her newly discovered ability. So when she sees the apparition of a Revolutionary War soldier in the middle of the town green—just days before the annual Patriot’s Day celebration, no less—she’s determined to figure out her connection to the man.

The ethereal soldier is not the only mystery in Abby’s life. She’s also trying to sort out her connection to Ned Newhall, the man who shares her ability and is playing a more serious romantic role in her life every day. But with plans for the celebration ramping up and her job becoming more chaotic by the minute, Abby’s finding it hard to catch her breath, much less come to grips with all the new turns her life has taken.

And when another eerie episode is followed by the appearance of a very curious young girl who seems wise beyond her years, Abby discovers she and Ned may have only scratched the surface of their special ability, and that Ned may hold the biggest surprise yet.

Having read the first book in this series I was intrigued enough to purchase the second one.
While there were some interesting points in the book, e.g. Ellie and her link to those who 'see', the progession of the people Abby can connect with, etc, there ultimately was more wrong than right for me in this story.

Some points about the book:
* There was way too much of Abby's inner dialogue in this story and it was all very repetitious. There should not be 5-6 solid pages of a character's musings to every one page of story progression.
* The geneology and history stuff was just too much. If a reader is fascinated with this kind of thing, this would be a big plus. For me, it just wasn't presented in a compelling way.
* The book read as if the author wrote in fits and starts. The continuity was way off. Things were repeated as if they hadn't just been mentioned and there were even some conflicting passages that left me confused.
* In the course of just a few months Abby went from being a door mat to being an ill tempered hag. Things would be sailing along nicely and then something would set her off out of the blue. Almost immediately she would be remorseful and then the reader is treated to more of her inner dialoge and endless questions.
* There was just a lot of unnecessary anger from the characters in this book. It felt contrived and only served to try to add silly 'drama' to the story.
I realize this is fiction, but most people in real life do not behave this way, at least most of the time. It was tiresome and irritating.
* Finally, there are many questions in this book and yet few answers. This is a theme that carried over from the first book. For every step forward it seemed there were 5 backward. I'm guessing this is meant to add suspense, but it only brings about frustration.
By the end of this book there should have been more answers to the mystery of what is going on with the characters and a more cohesive idea of the genetic links. Using the same abrupt ending technique didn't help this in any way and was, once again, annoying.

I don't think I'll be continuing with this series.

Seeing the Dead Relatively Dead Mysteries Book 2 edition by Sheila Connolly Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

Let me begin by saying I have enjoyed reading what has been presented so far. The writing is better than most books that have never made it to paper, and the plot and characters, as far as they go, are engaging. The abrupt ending however left me saying "Huh?". I have not read the first book so do not know how it ended, but this one feels like the second episode in a TV mini-series. A novel resolves issues - this so-called book leaves everything dangling. It's aggravating, as if or the author didn't think anyone would pay for the whole book, so they chopped it up into segments, hoping that people would keep buying them in order to find out how the story ends. That, or the author doesn't know how to construct a series. I suggest that she read any of numerous published authors to see how they do it.
This is the second book in the series. The first being 'Relatively Dead'. I enjoyed the continuation of Abby's development of her genealogical researching capabilities. She is coming along. I have done this type of research for 25+ years and still find something new and interesting on occasion. I will be honest. I am not that involved in war history. When details of the different skirmishes of the Revolutionary War were described in this book...my eyes started glazing over. But that is me. A war history buff would be in his/her element and enjoy it. The genealogical research is what appeals to me.
Abby and her continued relationship with Ned is interesting. I wouldn't mind knowing Ned's thoughts occasionally. That little something extra they experience with each other is intriguing. I also enjoyed Linda's daughter, Ellie. To take the situation as casually and calmly as she did is no small feat for a child of seven.
This is a book that would appeal to genealogists and war historians. Lots of details. I enjoyed it.
Seeing the Dead is book two in the Relatively Dead Mysteries by Sheila Connol y. This is an interesting book and one I normally wouldn’t have picked on my own. Dealing with the supernatural is not something I generally like. However, I chose this book based on a recommendation and found I really like it.
Abigail Kimball (Abby) came to Concord with her boyfriend, Brad. Brad wanted her to spend all of her time promoting him. This meant taking care of his house and being hostess for the important clients he brought home. Although she was a teacher, he didn’t want to share her with her students. When Abby finally took a good look at her life and Brad, she broke up with him. She found he was no good for her. She took a job at a small museum teaching small groups of school children who came to their museum. For the last six months, she had been dating Ned Newhall. When she started dating him, she found she began seeing the dead. When he was a young boy, Ned had seen a dead boy who had died in his house. He didn’t know for a long time that the boy was dead. After that, Ned began consciously burying his talent. When he met Abby, it began coming forward again.
Now Ned and Abby are on a quest to find out about her ancestors and the one ancestor they share. Why they are given this gift, they do not know; but Abby embraces it while Ned tried to ignore it. When Abby discovers that Ellie, her boss’s daughter is seeing the dead, their ability to see the dead becomes more of a liability. How can they help Ellie without opening themselves up for criticism? How can they explain this to Ellie’s parents?
Really wanted to like this, but the author spends way too much time inside Abby's head. All the back and forth dialogue in her head is just too much. I, like most readers, want character development, but there are just pages of this constant back and forth in her head that I just found tedious and had to skip over.
Having read the first book in this series I was intrigued enough to purchase the second one.
